Getting from Medellín airport to the city

Private transfer booked in advance

The driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals with your name. The price is closed before you travel — USD $41 (about $170,000 COP) for up to 4 people with luggage — and sixty minutes of waiting are included. It is the option that matters most on a late arrival, an early departure, or when you land with children and suitcases and no local SIM card.

Airport taxi

There are official taxis at the exit with set fares by zone. It works, but you negotiate after a long flight, the price varies by destination and at 2 a.m. the queue is not always there. Take the official rank, never an offer inside the terminal.

Shared van (colectivo)

The cheapest door-ish option: vans leave when they fill up and drop passengers at several points. Fine if you travel light and have time. Not fine if you land at midnight or you are in a hurry.

Bus to the city

There is a scheduled bus service to Medellín that is very cheap, but it leaves you at a terminal, not at your hotel, so you still need a second leg. Reasonable for solo travellers with light luggage and daylight to spare.
