Coffee Experience
A day as a coffee grower on a farm 40 minutes from Medellín: pick, pulp, cup and eat a paisa feast.
Many people arriving in Medellín want to see Colombian coffee and think first of the Coffee Region (Eje Cafetero). Before deciding, it helps to know there is a farm 30 to 40 minutes from the city, and that the Eje is a good deal further.

The Coffee Experience takes place on a mountain farm 30 to 40 minutes from the city. You put on the hat, poncho and picking basket, harvest coffee in the field, run it through the pulper, see fermentation, drying and roasting, and taste specialty coffee brewed in a Chemex, a V60 and a Japanese siphon. It ends with a mountain feast: fiambre paisa on a banana leaf, a traditional dessert and a pairing with local liqueurs.
There is one tour a day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with limited places. It is USD $52 per person, transport not included; if you need a transfer from your hotel, we quote it by group size.
The Eje Cafetero is the region of Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío, with towns like Salento and farms everywhere. It is four to six hours by road from Medellín depending on where you go, so a same-day return means spending most of the day in the car. It makes sense as a stage of a longer trip, with two or three nights there.
We do not have a published tour to the Coffee Region. If your plan takes you there, message us and we will tell you what we can help with.
Because it runs 10 to 2, the farm leaves the rest of the day free: a short city plan fits in the afternoon. It also works as the fourth day of the 4-day plan, as an alternative to paragliding (from USD $190 (1 person, transfer and flight included)).
