Medellín in one day

One day in Medellín covers a surprising amount, as long as you accept one thing: you have to choose. This is the route that works best when that is all the time there is.

Morning: Comuna 13

Start early, between eight and nine. It is the experience that tells you most about Medellín in the least time: street art, escalators and a story of transformation you cannot get from reading about it. Two hours of walking with breaks, and the morning light is the best you will get for the murals.

Midday: the historic centre

Botero Plaza with its twenty-three sculptures, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Palace of Culture are all within a few blocks. It is a dense, short walk: an hour and a half covers the essentials. Have lunch there, with a bandeja paisa if you are brave about the size.

Afternoon: Pueblito Paisa at sunset

Going up Cerro Nutibara late in the afternoon closes the day the way it should close: the whole Aburrá Valley, the city switching its lights on, and a sense of where you have been all day. It is the photo you take home.

What to leave out

Guatapé, without argument: ten hours would eat the entire day, driving included. Paragliding and Hacienda Nápoles, the same. And if your day is a layover with an evening flight, count a good hour backwards for the airport.

Frequently asked questions

What can you see in Medellín in one day?
Comuna 13 in the morning, the historic centre at midday and the Pueblito Paisa at sunset. It is the fullest route that fits in a day.
Can I do Guatapé on a layover day?
It is not advisable. Guatapé is 8 to 10 hours door to door and leaves no margin for a flight.
How much does a full day with a driver cost?
A private city tour is USD $85 (about $350,000 COP) for the vehicle, up to 4 people. If you want to add Comuna 13 the same day we put it together with a closed price.
Does it work if I land in the morning and leave at night?
Yes, and it is a common case. We pick you up at the airport, run the day and get you back in time for the flight.
